In addition to the IWF’s core role of operating an internet Hotline where the public can report potentially criminal online content, we provide a range of services to the internet industry to help disrupt the online distribution of criminal content and to help protect their networks from abuse.
We operate a national 'notice and takedown' service to effect the removal at source of criminal online content within our remit hosted in the UK.
We also provide a simultaneous alert service to expedite the removal of child sexual abuse content hosted abroad.
We facilitate the voluntary industry-led initiative to block access to child sexual abuse content hosted abroad by providing a dynamic list of URLs for web pages with such content.
We provide a list of words and phrases relating to child sexual abuse and criminally obscene adult content to members and other relevant partners who use this information to make this content more difficult to find and access online.
We supply data on newsgroups that regularly contain or advertise the availability of child sexual abuse content.
